The Little Women Hospitality Program

The Little Women Hospitality Program is a unique Catholic girls program that teaches girls how to become young ladies. It will nurture young girls with an understanding and love for the virtue of hospitality, and an understanding of what that means. They will learn that through practical ways and everyday skills that we can all serve others. We will then be answering our Lord’s call to serve Him as we do for others. Moreover, the girls will learn that the habit of hospitality is a way for all of us to grow deeper in our own spiritual life.

The Teachers’ Manual is divided into ten months. Each month the girls will learn one skill related to the virtue of hospitality. Girls will learn how to cook, how to properly clean, how to set a formal table and clear, how to converse and include others, how to sew, how to prepare a room for a guest and much more. Each month, they will be inspired from the life of a holy person who has demonstrated the skill at hand to help another. Next, they will discuss a passage from classic girls’ literature that shows their favorite characters practicing the skill of the month. These will spark a love for the skill and a taste for good literature. (These passages from classic girls’ literature are provided in the manual.) Finally, the teacher will demonstrate the skill, through clearly defined steps. Anyone from the most experienced mom to the novice of home skills will be able to execute these lessons. Nothing else is needed as each lesson is clearly laid out. Once the skill has been taught, the girls themselves practice and learn how to execute the skill. There are many opportunities, at the meetings and in the “Take Homes”, for the girls to become proficient at all of the skills. The girls will learn not only to do their best at what they do, but also, to do it because it is for others. They come to learn that practicing hospitality is a way to grow spiritually while performing our daily tasks and looking out for those in need. The year ends with a tea party for the moms; planned, cooked and served by the girls. What better person is there to serve than our mothers?
